يتناول الكتاب أربعة نصوص إصلاحية، صدرت في بدايات القرن الماضي لمحمد بن الحسن الحجوي، وهو أحد أعلام النهضة في بلاد المغرب العربي، وصاحب كتاب ((الفكر السامي في تاريخ الفقه الإسلامي)) الذي اقترن اسمه به، والذي سلك فيه مسلكا نهضويا، واستلهم فيه النظرية الخلدونية في الأطوار الأربعة (المنشأة، الشباب، الكهولة، الهرم)، وهذه النصوص هي : ((تجديد الفقه))، و((تعليم الفتيات لا سفور المرأة))، و((النظام في الإسلام))، و((التعاضد المتين بين العقل والعلم والدين))، إن قراءة هذه النصوص تجعلنا أمام صورة عجيبة ومثيرة، بل نادرة من حيث الوعي بها، تلك هي صورة الفقيه التاجر، التي يتجاوز فيها السلفي ((المتنور)) مع الليبرالي المتمسك بالفكر ((السلفي)).
