يأتي هذا الكتاب لليؤصل للأدب المقارن خلال تاريخ الأدب العربي، فيعقد مقدمة تحاول أن تؤسس العلم أدب مقارن من منظور عربي إسلامي، ثم يورد تطبيقا يتابع فيه تأثير شكل المقامات على الأدب الأوروبي، سواء في القديم أو الحديث، ولأول مرة يشير إلى تأثير شكل المقامات کجنس أدبي له مواصفاته الفنية على الآداب الأوروبية المعاصرة وخاصة کافکا في روايته الشهيرة « أمریکا» وتأتي خاتمة الكتاب لتؤكد أن هذا المنهج يغني من الأدب العربي، ويظهره في موضع الذي يعطي ويؤثر، وليس في موضع الذي يأخذ ويتأثر.
