Overview
في المنطقة التي كانت تعبد فيها عشتار في أشور، كان تراكم الطبقات معقدا جدا، وكانت المعابد التي من حيث الزمن تتابع بعضها فوق بعض، قد حل بعضها محل الآخر بشكل مضاد. إن غزارة اللقى ذات التفسير الحضاري من المواقع المختلفة، تجول دون نشر جميع البحوث الخاصة بالمعابد في مجلد واحد، وعليه، ضم هذا الكتاب فقد ظهرت المعابد القديمة أولاً منفصلة، واتبعه في هذا الجزء المعابد الحديثة. إن الحد الفاصل بين المجلدين مستمد من التطور التاريخي لآشور، عند بداية الحكم الذاتي الحقيقي للدولة الآشورية؛ وينتهي العصر الذي يطلق عليه اسم القديم مع علو آشور تحت حكم آشور أو بلط الاول حوالي عام 1380 ق. م. حيث يبدأ عصر جديد.
