لم تكن فترة حكم السلطان خليفة بن حارب البوسعيدي (1911-1960) لسلطنة زنجبار كأي فترة حكم سابقة ولا لاحقة، فبالإضافة إلى كون فترة حكمه والتي أقتربت من الخمسين عاما هي أطول فترة حكم للسلطنة من بين سلاطين البوسعيد لزنجبار فقد شهد عهده أحداثا سياسية كان لها تداعيات عظيمة ساهمت في تغير وجه زنجبار بشكل جذري ولا تزال إرهاصات تلك الأحداث مستمرة إلى يومنا هذا للأسباب الأنفة الذكر ولأهمية هذه الفترة من تاريخ زنجبار.
