تدور أحداث الرواية في عام 2500 م، حيث يتعرف القارئ على بطل الرواية وصديقه في عالم اختفت منه التكنولوجيا والمدن الحديثة والحيوانات البرية ؛ ليبدأ رحلة القارئ مع الكتاب : لماذا ؟ وكيف عاد الإنسان للحياة البدائية ؟ وذلك من خلال اكتشاف بطل القصة لشخص غريب يعيش في كهف منذ 300 عام، ليخوض رحلة البحث عن ماهيته، ولماذا ظل مخفيا لسنوات عديدة في كهف مظلم، وخلال رحلة البحث الاستكشافية تحتوي القصة على كثير من المعلومات الني تسرد بطريقة مبسطة ودون الخوض في تفاصيل معقدة ؛ مراعاة للفئة العمرية المستهدفة. وتحمل الرواية في طياتها رسائل تربوية وعلمية غير مباشرة.
