يعرض الكتاب ثلاثين قصة قصيرة مترجمة من روائع الأدبية أختارت بعناية. على سبيل المثال تحتوي هذه القصص على \"مربية الأطفال الخنوع \"لأنطون شيخوف، الحادثة\" لموينغشويم، \"ملابس الأمبراطورة الجديدة\" لهانس كريستيان إندرسون، \"القصاص\" لهكتور منرو (ساكي) و\"عامل المنجم العليل\" د.هـ لورانس. .. إلخ. وقد أورد المترجم نبذة مختصرة عن كل كاتب في الهوامش. إن أكثر ما يميز هذه القصص المختارة هو قصرها في صفحات لا تتعدى 10-15 صفحات، تعد قصة الكاتب الصيني (ديفيد ونج-الذي سبق وعمل في إدارة مستعمرة هونج كونج، ثم احترف الكتابة الأدبية لاحقا بعد التقاعد بعنوان \"العقيد والبروفيسور\"، من أكثر القصص التي تتشابه أحداثها مع أحداث ثورة 19 ديسمبر 2018 المجيدة بالسودان، حيث تحكي عن الصراع الدائم والأزلي بين رغبة الجماهير في التخلص من كل أشكال القهر والظلم والاستبداد، ديدن الحكومات الدكتاتورية الغاشمة، وبين هذه الحكومات التي تقتل الناس وأحلامهم من أجل تمكين سطوتها وقبضتها.
