يعد المثل أحد أهم أعمدة الادب سواء الفصيح منها أو الشعبي وهو من أقواها وأكثرها شيوعا لعبارته الوجيزة وملامسته لحياة الناس وتجاربهم وخبراتهم وسهولة حفظه والمثل الفصيح هو مستقر بقالب لغوي سيار عند كل الأخباريين الذين تناقلوه في كتبهم كالميداني وغيره أما المثل الشعبي فلا يختلف كثيرا عن الفصيح إلا أنه يرد في صيغ لهجية مختلفة داخل الأردن وخارجه ودلالة هذه اللهجات متقاربة مع التقائها بمضارب واحدة وهذا ما يعطي للمثل مرونة فريدة في الانتقال وقدرة على أحداث التواصل بين أفراد المجتمع الوحد أو بين المجتمعات في هذه الدولة وتلك.
