يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن الانقلاب العسكري في باكستان حيث جاء الانقلاب العسكري في باكستان بقيادة الجنرال برويز مشرف في 12 تشرين الأول (أكتوبر) 1999 لينهي تجربة ديمقراطية استندت إلى انتخابات حرة مكررا الحديث عن ضرورة دور الجيش في الحياة السياسية للباكستان على الرغم من أن هذه المرحلة شهدت دورا مؤثرا للجيش في الصراع بين السلطات الثلاثة إلا أن الهيمنة المدنية لرئيس الوزراء على شؤون المؤسسة العسكرية لم تكن موضع قبول قادة الجيش إذ تستند القيادة العسكرية إلى تاريخ سياسي طويل في حكم البلاد بشكل مباشر أو غير مباشر وهو ما يجعل من عودة الجيش حالة اعتيادية في ضوء مشاكل متعددة عانت منها البلاد منذ الأستقلال.
