يتناول الكتاب التصوير الفوتواغرفي في أوربا في القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي وبعدها بفترة وجيزة انتقل إلى السلطنة العثمانية، وشيئا فشيئا توغل التصوير الفوتواغرفي فى أوجه الحياة حتى أنه قام بنقل مآسي الإنسان في حرب (القيرم) بين السلطنة العثمانية وروسيا، وفي عهد السلطان عبد الحميد الثاني-رحمه الله-لم يكن من السهل والمتاح التنقل له بين البلاد المختلفة فاستعاض عن هذا بالصور .. فكان كل ما يحدث من أبنية جديدة ومنشآت وحتى السجناء مصورا.
