يعيش في بلادنا حوالي 7000 سعودي مع فيروس نقص المناعة البشرية المسبب لمرض الإيدز \"حسب إحصائيات عام 2016، وهذا العدد في تزايد بشكل سنوي. منهم رجال ونساء وشباب وأطفال ممن يشكلون أسرا بأكملها أو أفرادا متفرقين. منهم من هو على فراش الموت بعد سنوات من الصراع مع المرض ومنهم من يعيش حياة طبيعية تماما دون الشعور بأي عرض يذكر. ويطلق على هؤلاء المصابين الذين يعيشون بيننا «المتعايشون»، الذين حدث أن التقيت ببعض منهم في مقر جمعية الدعم الخيرية الخاصة بهم بمنطقة الرياض. والبعض الآخر تواصلت معهم عن طريق أحد متطوعي المنطقة الغربية والسوشيل ميديا من كافة أنحاء المملكة. أخذ تواصلي مع عدد لا بأس به منهم عدة أشهر، حيث أفصحوا لي خلالها عن كل ما في جوفهم.
