يقدم إلى القارئ العربي الترجمة الأولى لكتاب تولستوي ماذا علينا أن نفعل ؟ وهو أحد الكتب الفكرية المهمة لتولستوي حيث كان تولستوي يسجل أسماء المحتاجين، ويدون ملاحظاته حول المساعدات التي يمكن تقديمها لهم، لكي يعود إليهم في ما بعد وصف تولستوي فظاعة الفقر في المدن، والمسافة الشاسعة التي تفصل بين الفقراء والأغنياء هناك، لم يعف نفسه من المسؤولية، ووصف للقارئ شعوره بالذنب حول حياة الرفاهية التي كان يعيشها، وأكد دائما أن الرفاهية المفرطة والفقر المدقع مرتبطان، ولا يمكن فصل أحدهما عن الآخر؛ حيث وصل إلى نتيجة مفادها أن \"ثروتنا\" هي أساس الفقر يرى تولستوي أن المال أصل الشرور، وأن هناك جانبا غير أخلاقي في امتلاكه \"المال هو شكل جديد من أشكال العبودية\"
