يظل كتاب دليل الخليج للوريمر الكتاب العملة ومصدر رئيس لتاريخ الخليج وشبه الجزيرة العربية، ولا يزال لم يبح بالكثير من أسراره ومكنوناته على الرغم من صدور العديد من الكتب والدراسات التي تناولت جوانب منه، والكتاب على الرغم من أنه وضع من وجهة نظر بريطانية إلا أنه وثيقة مهمة، اذ اعتمد كاتبه على الوثائق الرسمية وكتابات الرحالة والزيارات الميدانية والمصادر للحلية وقد وردت المادة المتعلقة بالشارقة في دليل الخليج مبعثرة في قسميه الجغرافي والتاريخي، إما مستقلة أو متداخلة مع مناطق جغرافية وقبلية أخرى، وهذا ما دفعني لوضع هذا الكتاب الجمع المادة التي تخص الشارقة والقواسم، فقمت بجمع متناثرها ومتباعدها، ووضعتها في تنسيق تاريخي وفق الزمن وموضوعي فيما يتعلق بالجغرافيا والقبائل، وقمت بترتيبه ترتيبا تاريخيا زمنيا على تسلسل الأحداث حتى تاريخ تأليف الكتاب في غرة القرن العشرين.
