جاءت الحاجة إلى إصدار هذا الكتاب، لإثراء الخارطة الفكرية والمعرفية عبر تأصيل علم الاجتماع في الثقافة العربية، ونقد تساءل علماء الاجتماع عن صاحب التأسيس الحقيقي لعلم الاجتماع، هل هو عبد الرحمان بن خلدون أم أو جيست كونت الغربي ومن خلال الاطلاع على مختلف ما كتب في علم الاجتماع، يتضح أن هذا العلم لم تعرف له تسمية ولم يوضع له مصطلح ولم توجد له مبادئ مكتملة ولا مناهج واضحة إلا مع ابن خلدون، فقد كان هذا العالم سباقا إلى تأسيس هذا العلم عبر ما أسماه في مقدمته الشهيرة بعلم العمران البشري، وبذلك سبق علماء الغرب في التأسيس، هيأت هذه الأسبقية في الزمن مع ابن خلدون الأرضية الملائمة لكثير من رجال الفلسفة والعلم في الغرب إلى الاستفادة من هذا التراث العلمي.
