هو يضم بحوثا منتقاة من الدورة الخامسة لمنتدى دراسات الخليج والجزيرة العربية الذي عقده المركز في كانون الأول / ديسمبر 2018 في الدوحة، وتمحورت حول جملة من القضايا المتصلة بموضوع التحولات الاجتماعية في دول الخليج العربية، بدءا بإشكالات الهوية والقبيلة، مرورا بأسئلة التنمية والتحديث، وصولا إلى الأزمة الخليجية في عام 2017 التي أثارت أسئلة مهمة حول موضوعات القيم والهوية الخليجية. تلتقي في هذا الكتاب أسئلة متعددة تحيل على بعضها وتمثل معها المقاربات النظرية والمفاهيمية والعملية أساسا لطرح أسئلة الهوية والقبيلة والتنمية، انطلاقا مما شهدته هذه الدول في القرن العشرين من عمليات تحديث للبنى السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية، قادتها الدولة المستقلة حديثا ومن تقاطع الهوية الوطنية مع الهويات التقليدية، ولا سيما القبلية ومن التحديات الرئيسة التي تواجهها جهود بناء هوية خليجية موحدة. من هنا، يروم الكتاب فهم التحولات الاجتماعية في منطقة الخليج العربية وعلاقتها بحركية المجتمعات الخليجية وتطورها خاصة في السنوات الأخيرة.
