في هذه الرواية يحاول الكاتب أن ينفي عن أبي جلدة تهمة أنه قاطع طريق، ويؤكد أن ثائر وطني، ويكشف سر إعجابه وإعجاب الناس والإعلام بهذه الشخصية البسيطة المعجونة بتراب الأرض، ولم تلوثها مباهج السلطة، ولم تسع نحو الكراسي والمجد الشخصي الزائف. ويتخذ الكاتب من ضمير الأنا المتكلم والحوار وسيلتين في سرد الأحداث، واستخدام هذا الضمير يدل على طغيان الجانب الذاتي على النص بغرض إثبات الانتماء والهوية، وتوصيل رسالته الانتقادية للقارئ.
