يتناول كتاب التلمود للكاتب الدكتور شمعون مويال حيث يتحدث عن التقاليد والتعاليم الشفاهية التي ألقاها سيدنا موسى على أمته أثناء تدوين التوراة فتلقاه الخلف عن السلف بالحفظ إلى أن تم تدوينها ويعرض الكتاب تسلسل الأحكام والتعاليم والتقاليد من جيل إلى آخر إلى ختام التلمود وهو يذكر أم الرجال في كل جيل من أجيال علماء التلمود ويسرد المأثور من أقوال كل منهم وتعاليمه وحكمه فهو إذا توطئة لمعرفة أخلاق المشرعين الذين سينقل التلمود عنهم الشريعة والقضائية ومجادلاتهم وحوادثهم.
