يتحدث الكتاب عن خط الثلث من الخطوط العربية الأصيلة، ظهرت بوادره في العصر العباسي الأول على يد إبراهيم الشجري. وقد أخذ الأتراك فيما بعد عن بغداد فن هذا الخط وضبطوا قواعده .. وظهر من بينهم أساتذة، كان آخرهم موسى عزمي الملقب ب (حامد). انتقل خط الثلث إلى مصر على يد الشيخ عبد العزيز الرفاعي ومن بعض الخطاطين الذين وفدوا إلى مصر لتعليم المصريين أصول هذا الفن في مدرسة تحسين الخطوط بالقاهرة. كما ظهر في البلاد العربية بضعة خطاطين.
