يتناول الكتاب ديوان أشعار مجنون بني عامر مع بعض أحواله وحظيت أخبار المجنون (قيس من الملوح) وأشعاره بالعديد من الدراسات إلا أنها لا تعد مصادر ومراجع للتحقيق العلمي لعدم إعتمادها على أصول خطية تلتزمها وتصفها وتتبع فيها أصول التحقيق وما تميز به هذا العمل هو الإعتماد في تحقيق أخبار المجنون وأشعاره على سبع مخطوطات وقعت بين يدي وهي كلها برواية أبي بكر الوالبي إذ وصفتها وصفا يتفق مع الأًصول التي اتجه إليها المحققون كما بينت خطوات منهجي في التحقيق وقد ذكرت في مقدمة التحقيق حديثا فيه بعض التفصيل عن أبي بكر الوالبي الذي جمع هذه الأخبار والأشعار وقد جعلت النسخة التركية التي يرجع تاريخ نسخها إلى القرن السابع الهجري.
