يتناول الكتاب قراءات في النصوص والأحداث وما يتردد بينهما، تشهد على التغيير الذي طرأ على مصطلح القراءة سواء من حيث نطاقه أو من حيث مفهومه، فمن حيث النطاق، لم يعد المصطلح يقتصر على القراءة في الكتب والنصوص كما يجري تداوله لدى الكتاب والنقاد، بل تعدى ذلك إلى القراءة في المجريات والتطورات على أرض الواقع ولذا أصبح المصطلح يتردد لدى الساسة والخبراء وأصحاب العقول الاستراتيجية أما من حيث المفهوم أصبح فعل القراءة يتعدى معرفة الحقيقة، بمعنى أنه لم يعد مجرد وصف أو كشف أو اطلاع على الخلائق والحقائق والمقاصد باسم مبدأ غائب أو معنى مستتر بقدر ما أصبح مشاركة في لعبة الخلق باختراع الأسماء أو اجتراح الدلالات أو خلق الوقائع التي تتغير معها سلاسل الإحالية وخرائط الإدراك أو حسابات العقل وعلاقات القوة.
