يوضع هذا الكتاب في مصاف النصوص الإثنوجرافية الدقيقة التي يكتبها هواة من غير المتخصصين في علم الأنثروبولوجيا الثقافية، حيث يستعيد المؤلف ذاكرة الطفولة ليحكي لنا مشاهداته الحية لحياة أسرة مصرية قبطية تعيش في محافظة المنيا خلال الفترة من 1993 إلى 1999، خاصة فيما يتعلق بعاداتها وتقاليدها ومعتقداتها الشعبية، وقد أفرد المؤلف مساحة كبرى للمعتقدات والممارسات الشعبية من خلال مزيج من نصوص أنثروبولوجية مختلفة بعضها يمثل ملاحظات ميدانية لممارسات عايشها المؤلف بنفسه، ونصوص تحليلية يعبر فيها عن المعتقدات الشعبية السائدة لدى الأقباط بصفة عامة، ونصوص سردية تحكي عن أحداث مر بها المؤلف في طفولته مع أسرته وأقاربه وجيرانه وزملائه في المدرسة وآخرين في مواقف مختلفة. هناك أيضا محاولة من جانب المؤلف لاستدعاء الذاكرة الشخصية حول سيرته الذاتية خلال سن الطفولة. وهنا نلمح توظيفا لأدوات منهجية مختلفة معروفة لدى المتخصصين في علم الأنثروبولوجيا الثقافية.
