يتناول الكتاب مجموع من العصور التي مرت بيها آثار المنيا وأهمها : العصر الطيني : 3197- 2778 ق. م. يطوى هذا العهد من تاريخ مصر الفرعونية الأسرتين الأوليين وقد ملئت أخبار تلك الفترة بالكفاح والنصر إلى أن تم الاتحاد، الدولة القديمة أو عصر بناة الأهرام : 2778- 2280 ق. م كان ذلك العصر أزهى العصور المصرية فقد طبعت آثاره ومخلفاته بطابع مصري ووضحت فيه النهضة المعمارية ونشطت فيه العلوم والآداب، الأسرة الثالثة : 2778- 2723 ق. ملانكاد نعرف من أخبار تلك الأسرة إلا الملك «زوسر» ووزیره الأول، خالق عمارة الحجر إيمحوتب، الذي أصابه التوفيق في إخراج عمارة الهرم المدرج وملحقاته بصقارة، ويعد هذا البناء أكبر بناء حجري في ذلك الوقت.
