مكة والمدينة مدينتان حبيبتان لكل مسلم وقد اختار المؤلف قالب المفاخرة لموضوع رسالته عنهما، وقد وفق المؤلف في شكل وأسلوب رسالته أيما توفيق فامتازت المفاخرة ببراعة الاستهلال وإحكام البناء الدرامى القائم على حوار موضوعه صراع بين طرفين بدأه بجمل قصيرة متعاقبة ذات جرس موسيقى أخاذ ويتصاعد الصراع الدرامي فيتحول إلى فقرات مطولة تسمح لكل طرف بسرد مميزاته ومثالب منافسه وينهى المؤلف المفاخرة بحل يرضى الطرفين إذ تثنى كل بلدة على الأخرى وعلى نفسها بما لها من أفضال ومميزات إذ إن كلاهما نال من تكريم الرحمن ما يليق بها. وقدمت لنا المفاخرة سيرة الرسول في كل من مكة والمدينة بإيجاز واف دقيق يتفق مع سيرة ابن هشام وقدمت كذلك أهم الأحداث الدينية والتاريخية التى شهدتها المدينتان بصدق وأمانة.
