الضوء يسطع في الظلام، إحدى روائع ليو تولستوي المسرحية، والجميل فيها أنك لا ترى الحقيقة بشكل نظري مجرد، لكنك تراها مجسدة بأجسام وعلى ألسنة شخصيات «إنسانية» للغاية. نيقولاي ايفانوفتش، هو الشخصية الرئيسة في المسرحية، ومعظم الأفكار التي أراد تولستوي تضمينها تكمن في حواراته مع زوجته «ماريا» المحتارة والبائسة من ضلالته خارج سرب الكنيسة، على غرار «إني كنت أعمى فيما سبق، تماما كأهل بيتي، أما الآن فقد أبصرت ولم أعد أستطيع عدم الرؤية». عظمة تولستوي ليست فقط في الأفكار وطريقة صياغة الحوارات، بل هي عبقريته في النطق بكلمات «إنسانية»، وردات فعل طبيعية وبشرية، فعندما تتكلم ماريا تشعر حقا أنها «أنثى»، أنثى تخاف وتحتاج الطمأنينة والهدوء والاستقرار دون هذه الترهات الفكرية.
