في كتابها «البطلة بألف وجه ووجه» الذي صدرت ترجمته العربية أخيرا (دار نينوى ترجمة عدنان حسن)، تعمل الأكاديمية الأميركية ماريا تاتار على إعادة الاعتبار لبطلات تجاهلهن جوزيف كامبل في أطروحته المعروفة «البطل بألف وجه» (1949) إذ استبعدهن من «بانثيون الأبطال»، فتكشف عن الجانب المهمل لنساء صنعن تاريخا مضادا في حكايات لا نهائية، على غرار ما فعلته شهرزاد في «ألف ليلة وليلة»، باستدراج وقائع وأساطير وسرديات، تنسف خريطة الأبطال التي وضعها كامبل وآخرون.
