تعد دراسة تاريخ العوائل العريقة والمؤثرة في الحياة السياسية والاقتصادية التي برزت في الولايات العربية أثناء العهد العثماني من المواضيع المهمة التي تستحق الدراسة، وتعد عائلة سرسق إحدى هذه العوائل والسراسقة من أصول أفرنجية استوطنوا بلاد الشام أثناء الحروب الصليبية، وهم من طائفة الروم الأرثوذكس من القسطنطينية من أضنه قرب مرسين جنوب تركيا هاجروا في القرن السابع عشر إلى شمال بيروت وسكنوا منطقة البربارة تحت اسم آل صايغ) وفي نهاية القرن الثامن عشر ومطلع القرن التاسع عشر هاجر أحد أبنائها والملقب سرسق من بربارة إلى بيروت واستقر فيها مكوناً بذلك أسرة جديدة حملت اسم أسرة (سرسق)
