ثم نشات على مر الزمان طائفة من الرحالين جعلوا مقصدهم وصف أسفارهم، وتسجيل تجاربهم في كتب يجد قارئها من الأخبار المتصلة، والأوصاف المتتابعة والتدقيق في تسجيل الحوادث والمشاهد ما لا يجده في كتب التاريخ والسير التي تعنى أول ما تعنى بالحوادث مشهودة ومروية ويأتي خلالها وصف البلاد وأهلها تبعاً.ومن أقدم الرحلات المعروفة رحلة الشاعر الفارسي الفيلسوف ناصر الخسرو، وهي رحلة تقع حوادثها بين سنة 437 وسنة 444هـ ويجول صاحبها في بلاد إيران مبتدئا من مرو في خراسان مارا بآذربيجان وأرمينية والشام وفلسطين ومصر والحجاز ونجد وجنوبي العراق، ويعود إلى إيران منتهيا إلى مدينة بلخ في خراسان.
