يعد هذا الكتاب محاولة حقيقية لتناول موضوع التنمية، وذلك عن طريق التركيز والاهتمام بالجانب التطبيقي للجغرافية في التنمية، ويشتمل محتوى الكتاب على خمسة أبواب، يهتم الباب الأول بجغرافية التنمية وذلك بدراسة مفهوم التنمية وأبعادها، ويدرس الباب الثاني تنمية الموارد البشرية والتنمية الإدارية، أما الباب الثالث فقد خصص لموضوع تنمية المستقرات البشرية من تنمية القرى والمدن. وذلك بدراسة كل من القرية والمدينة، وفي الباب الرابع تم تناول الدراسة العملية والتطبيقية لموضوع التنمية والتخطيط على الأنماط المختلفة من الأنشطة الاقتصادية، أما الباب الخامس فقد تناول موضوع الموارد والتنمية من خلال تناول مفهوم الموارد وطرق تصنيفها والعوامل المؤثرة فيها.
