نیکانور بارا شاعر مشاكس بل مشاغب، يشطب بجرة قلم كل ما تعارف عليه الشعراء من ثوابت الشعر، جعل من مسيح إلكي لسان حاله، ووضع على فمه هذه المواعظ الغريبة المتناقضة تناقضا صارخا، التي يختلط فيها الجد بالهزل، عارضا علينا رجلا مجنونا يعلم الناس الحكمة، ومهرجا في لباس قديس، وبطلا مضادا دونكيخوتيا مثيرا للسخرية والشفقة في آن واحد. لكن الجدير بالذكر هو أن هذه المواعظ كتبت إبان هيمنة الديكتاتورية العسكرية التي قادها الجنرال أوغستو بينوشيه، والتي وقف منها الشاعر موقفا معارضا، رغم أنه نأى بنفسه عن مواجهتها مباشرة. هذه القصيدة قال عنها الناقد بالينته إنها الإبداع الشعري الأهم في تشيلي في السنوات الأخيرة وفي أمريكا الإسبانية أيضا، لأنها القصيدة الكبيرة الوحيدة المكتوبة بكاملها بالتشيلية، لا فقط بالإسبانية المطعمة بمشاهد محلية.
