واحد من المخطوطات المغربية الثمينة، ومصدر نادر لتاريخنا، يتعلق ببحث أخبار الأمازيغيين المغاربة وأصولهم المكانية والسلالية، مع إبراز مكانة المصامدة الرفيعة عن غيرهم ؛ جاء هذا الكتاب في ظرف تاريخي متوتر حرج، اتسم بحدة الصراع السياسي والعسكري والاجتماعي القبلي ما بين جماعة المصامدة الذين فقدوا دولتهم الموحدية من جهة، والزناتيين الذين تربعوا على حكم دولتهم المرينية من جهة أخرى. كما يعتبر هذا الكتاب نموذجا للإسطوغرافية المغربية غير الرسمية في العصر الوسيط، كان من بين مصادر بعض المؤرخين المغاربة الموسوعيين الكبار.
