يحتوي الكتاب على \"قصائد تانكا\" للشاعرة اليابانية (ماريكو كيتاكوبو) والتانكا قصائد مكونة من خمسة أسطر، وهي غنائية يابانية الأصل، حيث كان اليابانيون القدماء يؤلفونها حتى قبل أن يتعلموا القراءة والكتابة، كانوا ينشدونها مثل الأغاني، وكانت لأكثر من ألف سنة الشكل السائد في الشعر الياباني، وقد فقدت مكانها البارز عندما اخترع الهايكو في القرن (17)، لكن استمرت كتابتها حتى يومنا هذا كذلك يحتوى الكتاب على \"قصائد هايكو\" للشاعر (ريتشارد رايت)، وهو أميركي من أصل أفريقي، وقد قضى أواخر سنوات عمره في كتابة قصائد الهايكو فقط.
