يقدم الباحث مصطلح \"طقوس الخصوبة\" من خلال الممارسات التي تلجأ إليها المرأة السوهاجية بغرض تحقيق أمنيتها وهي الإنجاب وكذلك حل المشكلات المتعلقة به. ويرجع سبب عدم إنجاب المرأة أو تعطلها وتأخرها إلى ما يسمى بـ \"الكبسة أو المشاهرة\" عند دخول أحد الأشخاص على المرأة وهي في حالات معينة (عروس. واضعة-فطمت طفلها حديثا، دون أن ترى هلال الشهر العربي الجديد. ويرى في مجتمع البحث أن هناك أشخاصا بعينهم من شأنهم أن يحدثوا الكبسة عند دخولهم على المرأة. ويعرض مجموعة من طقوس حماية المرأة وكذلك طرق فك الكبسة ؛ بهدف أن تكون المرأة قادرة على الإنجاب، في إشارة ثانية لافتة إلى إنسانية هذه الطقوس.
