أحمد شاملو شاعر إنساني، فيما وراء الإيديولوجية. كان أولا، ذاته وذاتيته، بعمق وتأصل. هكذا أتقن الانفتاح على الآخر، واعيا أنه لا يقدر أن يكون ذاته إلا بقدر ما يكون الآخر. واعيا أيضا، أن الخلاق، شعرا وفنا وفكرا، يتعلم دائما، ولا يقدم نفسه إلى الآخرين بوصفه معلما. غير أنه يحاول فيما يتعلم أن يضيء وأن يشير، وأن يرمز، وأن يطرح الأسئلة على الأشياء لكي يزداد فهما لها في علاقاتها-وفي مآلاتها. هكذا ليست قصائده تعاليم، وإنما هي أماكن رحبة وفاتنة للقاء بينه وبين من يعرف كيف يقرأ.
