ابن تيمية نموذج من نماذج الفكر الإسلامي الذي استطاع تمثل الحضارات السابقة دون أن يفقد هويته إذا كنا نعترف أنه طالما أن الغرب قابع في قلوب الكثير منا بوصفه مصدرا للمعرفة، وإطارا مرجعيا يحال إليه كل شيء للفهم والتقييم، فسنظل قاصرين وفي حاجة دائما إلى أوصياء. نقول قبل ذلك ومعه : إن ابن تيمية كان يهدف إلى إزاحة الرهبة من الآخر، وكشفه، وتحجيمه، والتصدي لأي وصاية فكرية تصدر منه. قرأت ما كتبه سعود السرحان في بحثه : «الحكمة المصلوبة : مدخل إلى موقف ابن تيمية من الفلسفة» ومع أني تهيبت أول أمري ولوج «مدخل مظلم» علقت على بابه : «حكمة مصلوبة» تقطر دما... إلا أني اتخذت شيئا يشبه ذاك الذي يضعه مرتادو الأغوار والكهوف على رؤوسهم، فينير لهم الطريق... ودخلت.
