يسلط هذا الكتاب المستند إلى محفوظات أرشيفية عسكرية ومصادر دبلوماسية غير منشورة، ضوءا جديدا على النزاعات التي عرفها عالمنا ويعرفها الآن، ويعرض فهما أفضل للرهانات الجيوسياسية التي تحملها المياه كمورد طبيعي من المعارك الأولى عام 1914، إلى الانخراط الحالي للجيش الفرنسي في صحراء دول الساحل الإفريقي، شكلت المياه عنصرا إستراتيجيا في العمليات العسكرية. وكان للسيطرة عليها تأثير في مصير أكثر من معركة في الحرب العالمية الأولى. كما كانت المياه رهانا أساسيا في حرب الصحراء، في الحرب العالمية الثانية ونقطة مركزية في التخطيط لنزول قوات الحلفاء في النورماندي، عام 1944.
