خرج إلينا بكتاب جديد عن اليابان عنوانه \"اليابان.. جذور ومقاربات ويضم ثماني عشرة مقالا، كتبت عن اليابان، ونشرت في مجلة نيبون تايمز، ومن خلال هذه المقالات يحاول الكاتب استكشاف مفاتيح الفكر الياباني من خلال التعرض للكتاب التاريخي القديم \"كوجيكي\" الذي جمع بواسطة الإمبراطور الياباني، وهو الكتاب الذي يحتوي على الأساطير اليابانية القديمة، التي تحكي قصة نشأة اليابان، وظهور الأباطرة الأوائل. ثم يتطرق الكاتب إلى مرحلة العزلة اليابانية، التي استمرت 250 عاما، الفترة التي انغلقت فيها اليابان على نفسها، ومنعت الاتصال بالعالم الخارجي عدا موانئ ثلاثة من بينها ميناء \"ناجاساكي\"، وكيف أثرت تلك العزلة على الثقافة اليابانية الحديثة ؛ يستعرض الكتاب أيضا العلاقات الثقافية، وأطر التعاون بين الجانبين الياباني والمصري في مجال الآثار بأسلوب سلس جذاب، يفتح أمامنا آفاقا رحبة للاطلاع على الوجود الثقافي الياباني في مصر منذ 1966 م وحتى الآن.
