أصدق وأمتع ما نقوله في موضوع هذه المسرحية، وهو ما أورده مؤلفها نفسه في مقدمة كتبها. «إن هدفي الأول من كتابة هذه المسرحية هو إحياء المتعة في نفوس القراء والمتفرجين، بأن أقدم لهم ألوانا من التسلية يفيدون منها، أن أجعلهم يضحكون بملء قلوبهم، يضحكون مني ومن حوادث المسرحية، ثم من أنفسهم أيضا. فإذا استطعت أن أحقق هذا، فإني أكون قد كسبت قضيتي مع الجمهور». وتحقيق هذا الهدف ليس بالأمر اليسير.. إن إضحاك الجمهور أصعب من استدرار دموعه. ثم إن إضحاكه من غير إسفاف، مع تزويده بما يوسع من أفق تفكيره، يؤلف الأمر الذي لا يستطيع أن يحققه غير المقتدرين. وقد حقق المؤلف كل هذا، ثم زاد عليه أنه نازل تفاهات جيله ورذائل مجتمعه، مناديا بالتقارب بين الطبقات وإعطاء كل إنسان حقه في الحياة الحرة إن مسرحية (حلاق إشبيلية) هي مسرحية الإثارة في عالم الفكاهة والسخرية وفي دنيا التحرر.
