لما رأيت في تاريخ كريستوف كولومب من اللذة، ولما وجدت فيه من جليل العبر وسامي العظات، طفقت في جمعه وتعريبه لا ألوي إلا على فائدة الجمهور. ولما طبع عليه الشاب المصري من اليأس والخمول ؛ دارت الأفكار في خلدي واستولى على القنوط، فكنت أقدم رجلا في طبعه، وأوخر أخرى عم إبرازه، لا سيما أنه ليس برواية غرامية حتى يروج في مثل هذه الأيام. ولكني لحسن الحظ وجدت من إخواني الأحباء تشجيعا وتعضيدا جعلاني أقدم على طبعه، راجيا منهم أن يغضوا الطرف عن الهفوات، سائلا المولى -- سبحانه وتعالى -- أن يكلل أعمالنا بالنجاح، إنه على كل شئ قدير، وبالإجابة جدير.
