ينطلق الكتاب من أهمية علم القراءات القرآنية ودوره في توجيه الدراسة اللغوية وظواهرها الصوتية بين علمين مشهورين أبي عبدالله الحسين ابن خالويه (توفي 370 هـ) في كتابه \"الحجة في القراءات السبع\" وهو كوفي المذهب وأبي علي الفارسي (توفي 377 هـ) في كتابه \"الحجة للقراء السبعة\" وهو بصري المذهب وتسعى الدراسة إلى إثبات أن الدرس الصوتي عندهما متأثر بأحكام القراءات ويهدف الكتاب كذلك إلى تجديد النظر في كتب الاحتجاج للقراءات أو الاحتجاج بها من حيث التقصي والتدقيق لتصحيح منهج الاستدلال.
