لا حاجة بنا للدلالة على أهمية هذا البحث، فالكل أصبح يعرف معرفة واضحة أن الطائفية هي من أهم المعوقات التي تمنع مجتمعنا اللبناني من التطور والتقدم. والتطور ليس مفهوما مجردا بل حقيقة اجتماعية واقتصادية وسياسة أي حقيقة تاريخية لها أسبابها ودوافعها التي هي بدورها تاريخية أيضا. فعندما نقول أن الطائفية تعوق التطور لا نعني أنها تقف في وجه التاريخ وتمنعه من السير نحو الأفضل، بل نعني أنها دخلت التاريخ اللبناني من خلال. دخولها في عقول وعادات وأعراف اللبنانيين فأصبح فعلهم في التاريخ يتم على ضوئها وبتأيرها المباشر وغير المباشر.
