يهدف هذا الكتاب الى إعانة القارئ على تفهم مادة الاقتصاد بلغة سهلة بسيطة، مفترضا فى ذلك أن أية فكرة رئيسية في علم الاقتصاد يمكن التعبير عنها بمصطلحات غاية في البساطة يستطيع أن يفهمها القارئ العادي. إن نظريات الاقتصاد التجريدية لم توجد لتكون كئيبة يصعب فهمها إذ أن تطبيقها على بعض المشاكل الفعلية لحياة الفرد يمكن أن يظهرها كقوة دافعة ومثيرة ومفيدة. لذلك فإن أهمية الاقتصاد في حياة الشعوب اليومية تجعله أعظم قدرا وأسمى مكانة من أن يلقى جانبا باعتبار أنه غير ذي موضوع أو أنه شديد الصعوبة وخاصة بالنسبة للقارئ غير المتخصص.
