لقد أوصانا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم باتباع سنته والبعد عن البدع وطريق الشيطان، وحذرنا من خطر ما سيقع في الناس من الاختلاف والابتداع وإن أحوج ما يحتاجه الناس في هذا الزمان، هو من يكشف لهم عما أحدث في دينهم، ويذكرهم بسنة نبيهم صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقد يفعل بعضهم ما يفعله ولا يدري مبتدع لجهله وتقصيره في تعلمه السنن، وقد يفعله وهو مدرك أنه بدعه ولكنه يخشى ألا يفعله فيلومه الناس على تركه. وفي هذا الكتاب يكشف لنا العالم البحر الإمام السيوطي (المتوفى سنة 911 هـ) عن أنواع هذه البدع، وما جاء في ذمها، وأحيانا ! يروي قصة ابتداعها ونشأتها، ليكون أبلغ في الاعتبار.
