يشرح الكتاب لامية ابن الوردي الشهيرة الرائعة المليئة بالمواعظ والحكم. قصيدة ابن الوردي لها فوائد لغوية من جهة وأخلاقية من جهة أخرى ومليئة بخبرات الحياة. اختار صلاح الدين الزماكي أول بيت من القصيدة بلفظ \"الغواني\" بدل \"الأغاني\" وهو اختيار موفق وملائم للمعنى أكثر، فأصبح الببيت كما يلي : اعتزل ذكر الغواني والغزل وقل الجد وجانب من هزل. ملاحظة: اللامية هي القصيدة التي تكون القافية فيها تنتهي بحرف اللام، والنونية هي القصيدة التي تنتهي قافيتها بحرف النون، وهكذا باقي الأحرف.
