هذا سفر من أسفار ابن الجوزي سطر فيه عصارة عقله وذرابة لسانة لإحقاق الحق وإبطال شبه المعاندين، فهو يرد في هذا الكتاب على عبد المغيث الحنبلي الذي تولى نصرة يزيد بن معاوية والدفاع عنه بأروع بيان وأقوى حجة. وتكمن أهمية الكتاب هو أنه امتاز بميزتين وهي : الجرأة والشجاعة : فالتكلم في موضوع يزيد يعتبر من الأمور الحساسة ومن يتكلم فيه يلقي الصد والنفور من الناس وينظر إليه بشزر ويكون موضع تهمة وريبة. ومما دفع المحقق إلى دراسة هذه المخطوطة هو إظهار الحق وانتصار لآله صلى الله عليه وسلم وإزالة خطأ شائع لدى عوام الناس وعلمائهم، وقد حرص في عمله على إظهار الحقيقة كما هي دون تهويل.
