Overview
مسألة تطوير اللغة من المسائل المهمة التي واجهت العرب في القرن التاسع عشر، فمع بدء إصدار الصحف العربية، ونقل العلوم الغربية إلى اللغة العربية، وجدت حاجة ماسة لتعريب المصطلحات وتطوير اللغة، وأسس مجمع للغة العربية في القاهرة، وكان الهدف منه النهوض بهذه اللغة لتتمكن من استيعاب ثقافة العصر الجديد، وتصدى عدد من علماء اللغة إلى هذه المسألة، وكان إبراهيم الیازجي ممن أدلوا بدلوهم في هذا المجال، فكتب العديد من المقالات المتعلقة بمسائل لغوية كثيرة، وكان من جملة ما كتبه مجموعة من المقالات تحت عنوان اللغة والعصر، تحدث فيها عن مجمع اللغة العربية في القاهرة، وبين فيها رأيه في عملية التعريب وتطوير اللغة، ثم تابع هذه المسألة في مقالات نشرت تحت عنواني التعريب والمجاز.
