يتناول الكتاب سيرة عماد الدين الأصفهاني أو العماد الأصفهاني أو عماد الدين الأصبهاني هو أبو عبد الله، محمد بن حامد بن محمد بن عبد الله بن علي بن محمود بن هبة الأصفهاني الكاتب، ويعرف بـ ابن أخي العزيز. مؤرخ وأديب وشاعر عاصر الدولة النورية والأيوبية ودون أحداثهما، ولد في أصفهان في ثاني جمادى الآخرة سنة 519 هـ العام 1125 م ، رافق صلاح الدين الأيوبي في حياته ومعاركه. وبعد وفاة صلاح الدين عام 1193 أقام في منزله وأقبل على التصنيف حتى وفاته في دمشق في 13 رمضان 597 هـ من العام 1201 م.
