لما كان المشتغل بالبحث في دواوين السنة الشريفة يجد صعوبة في الوصول إلى مبتغاه فيها، سواء كان الكتاب مرتبا على طريقة المسانيد او المعاجم أو الجوامع أو السنن، قدم أبي يعلى القويني... الشبراوي كتاب في \"الفهرسة\" اعتمد فيه \"مسند الحميدي\" ورتبه وصنعه على حروف المعجم، فاحتوى الكتاب على : فهارس بأسماء أصحاب المسانيد على ترتيب حروف المعجم، وفهرس بأطراف الأحاديث على نسق حروف المعجم، ثم اتبعه بفهرس بأطراف الآثار على نسق حروف المعجم، وفهرس بالكلمات الغريبة والبارزة في الأحاديث والآثار يستطيع الباحث الوصول إلى غرضه من خلاله في لحظات وذلك بتذكر الكلمة الغريبة أو البارزة في الحديث وردها للثلاثي مرتبا هذه الأفعال على حروف المعجم أيضا تيسيرا للقارئ، وأخيرا فهرس بالآيات القرآنية في المسند، وفهرس بالأشعار مع ذكر لعنوان كل قصيدة، والقائل لها...
