يشير المؤلف فى الكتاب إلى أن اليهود ينقسمون إلى فرقتين، فرقة يقال لها \"الربانون\" أو \"الربانيون\" والأخرى يقال لها \"القراءون\"، لافتا إلى أن الربانيين هم جمهور اليهود المعروفين أكثر من غيرهم، أى عدا اليهود القرائين. ويحوى الكتاب خمسة أبواب، يتناول المؤلف فى أولها العبريون والإسرائيليون واليهود والموسويون بالشرح، ويتناول فى الباب الثانى من الكتاب الفرق اليهودية التى تلاشت، كما يتناول السفرديم والاشكنازيم، وفى الباب الثالث يتناول المشنا والتلمود والجمرا، ثم يعرض فى الباب الرابع لفرقة القراءين وأصحاب الدعوة إليها، وأسباب عدم إيمانهم بالتلمود، ويختم الكتاب فى الفصل الخامس بالإشارة إلى الفرق بين القرائين والربانيين، وعدد من العادات مثل منع الخمير فى عيد الفصح، وحرمة الأمر بالعمل فى السبت وغيرها.
