تتألف في كتاب نورا كومي الطريق الى نينوى ثلاثة محاور رئيسة تناولت المؤلفة في المحور الأول حياة المنقب الآثاري اوستن هنري لا يرد الذي اهتم اهتماماً خاصاً بالآشوريات، وألقت في المحور الثاني الضوء على جانب مهم من الحضارة الآشورية تمثل بما كشف لا يرد النقاب عنه من آثار مادية، وبما عثر عليه من رقم طينية اربت على ٢٥ الف رقيم دونت فيها معاجم ومؤلفات تبحث في علوم شتى كالتاريخ والطب والكيمياء والفلك وصنع الزجاج والسيراميك وقوائم بأسماء الآلهة والملوك، فضلا عما جاء في هذا المحور من وصف للحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية وبحث المحور الثالث، وهو أهم محور في الكتاب الأوضاع السياسية في المنطقة.
