هذا الكتاب تبدأ الفترة العباسية الرابعة من عام 552 هـ وتنتهي في عام 656 هـ خلال هذه الفترة حكم سبعة خلفاء عباسيين في مدنية السلام بغداد كل هؤلاء الخلفاء عملو على الحفاظ على الاستقلال ولهذا أسسوا جيشا شعبيا وتقويته وذلك لمحاولة أحياء مجد الإمبراطورية العباسية وعظمة عاصمتها بغداد لكنهم لم يحلفوا إلا بشكل متواضع إذا كانو حينئذ محاصرين من قبل سالات كانوا الأكثر قوة منهم بالرغم من ولاء أكثرهم للخليفة العباسي ونقش أسمه على السكة التي صدروها إذا سعى بعضهم باستمرار لاستبدال السلاجقة والسيطرة على الخليفة، تعتبر العملة العباسية في أوائل الفترة العباسية الرابعة نادرة ولا سيما في النصف الثاني من القرن الخامس الهجري وبصرف النظر عن ضئالة ما كان يعرض في مزادات وأسواق العملة كانت أكثرها معروفة مما كان موجودا في المتحف العراقي.
