يتضمن هذا الكتاب المذكرات الحزبية، أي التي كتبها سياسيون أو زعماء ينتمون إلى أحزاب ما قبل ثورة 23 يوليو/ تموز. وقد تنوعت مستويات هذه المذكرات فكان منها ما له قصة تستحق أن تروى مثل مذكرات محمد فريد، ومذكرات سعد زغلول، ومذكرات عادية ليس وراءها قصة ومنها ما كان مهماً لدرجة خصصت له صفحات كثيرة، ومنها ما اكتفى بصفحات عليلة، وهناك من المذكرات اما اقتضت من الباحث تقديم نقد تاريخي مثل مذکرات کمال الدين حسين، وهذا العمل يتجاوز مهمة التعريف.
